Smoking rules will change from April 1, 2020

The Revised Health Promotion Act and the Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance for the Prevention of Passive Smoking will be fully enforced, and smoking will be prohibited in all facilities.
Smoking is not allowed except in designated areas. People under the age of 20 are not allowed to enter areas where smoking is allowed.

About the Revised Health Promotion Act
In order to prevent unwanted second-hand smoke, the government will consider children and patients who have a particularly large health impact, and will prohibit smoking except in certain areas of facilities according to the classification of facilities that many people use. At the same time, it stipulates the measures that the administrator should take.
About Tokyo Passive Smoking Prevention Ordinance
In order to protect employees who are in a position where it is difficult to prevent passive smoking and children who are susceptible to health effects, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has established new rules unique to the city that are added to and sidelined from the revised Health Promotion Law.
