About Organic Fluorine Compounds in Tap Water

There have been reports in some newspapers regarding organic fluorine compounds in tap water.
As of April 1, 2020, organic fluorine compounds in tap water have been designated as "water quality management target items," with a provisional target value set at "50 ng/L or less for the sum of PFOS and PFOA."
Currently, the tap water in Inagi City is supplied from the Higashimurayama Water Purification Plant.
The management of the Higashimurayama Water Purification Plant is conducted by Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which also regularly tests for organic fluorine compounds.
As of the latest test results, the levels are significantly below the national provisional target value for water quality management (50 nanograms per liter for the total of PFOS and PFOA, where a nanogram is one billionth of a gram), and there is no situation that would affect health.
Additionally, as of April 1, 2012, all water supply operations in Inagi City have been transferred to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
