Wooden Standing Statue of Kannon
Walking through Seichi Park located within Yomiuri Land, you can see numerous cultural properties such as buildings, Buddhist statues, stone structures, and sculptures. Among them, the wooden standing statue of Kannon enshrined in the hall beneath Myoken-do is a valuable Buddhist statue designated as an Important Cultural Property by the national government. It is made of a single piece of colored cypress, stands approximately 154 centimeters tall, and is accompanied by a wooden lotus pedestal. The total height including the pedestal is about 185 centimeters. The colored parts of the statue and pedestal have significantly deteriorated over time. The statue is believed to have been created during the early Heian period (around 820 to 850 AD). Although this statue was not originally from the Inagi area, it can be considered the oldest statue in the city. It was designated as an Important Cultural Property by the national government in August 1950.
