MECHANICAL CITY INAGI Presents What is “Mechanical Designer Kunio Okawara Project”?

Mechanic designer Kunio Okawara project logo
Logo design: Mr. Jet Inoue

As it is the hometown of Mr. Kunio Okawara, who is famous as a mechanical designer, the city has become an attractive city for children and families by installing works that give a sense of Kunio Okawara's designs in Inagi City and holding the Mechanical Designers Summit. This is a project that aims to create a vibrant city. By promoting this project, we will improve the appeal of Inagi City, revitalize the region, promote tourism, and increase the number of permanent residents.

MECHANICAL CITY INAGI Presents Mecha Design Contest

This is a contest that invites original mecha designs based on a theme. It began in 2023 as a follow-up to the "Mecha Designers Summit," which was held a total of 10 times up until 2022.
For more details, please see the Mechanic Designer Kunio Okawara Project website (external link).

Main initiatives to date

1 Tourism information bases and monuments, etc.

In April 2016, `` Inagi Transmission Base Pair Terrace '' opened under the elevated JR Nambu Line Inagi Naganuma Station as a base to disseminate the charms of Inagi. In addition to revitalizing the area in collaboration with neighboring shopping streets, we also disseminate Inagi tourist information, sell specialty products, and also have a cafe space where you can enjoy light drinks using local ingredients.
Additionally, as part of the project, a 3.6m tall Gundam and Char's Zaku have been installed in front of the facility, and a monument to Yatter One has been installed in front of Minamitama Station on the JR Nambu Line. .
Additionally, we have installed 14 design plates of ``Yatter One'' and ``Scope Dog'' on the fall prevention fence of the ``Shinbori'' irrigation canal on the south side of JR Nambu Line Inagi-Naganuma Station.

2 Hometown Tax Donation Reward Gifts

Hometown tax payment is a system that allows you to support your hometown or a prefecture, city, town, or village that you have a special attachment to through a donation. The city will present local specialties as a thank-you gift to those who donate 10,000 yen or more. Some of the thank-you gifts are project-related, such as a pin badge set designed by Kunio Okawara. For more information, please see "About I (Love) Town Inagi Support Donations (Hometown Tax Payment)" .

3 Main visual production (from 2015 to 2017)

As part of the project, we have asked Kunio Okawara to design the main key visuals, which have the city as a backdrop. In 2015, the background was JR Nambu Line Inagi-Nagumanuma Station, in 2016, JR Nambu Line Yanoguchi Station, and in 2017, Yomiuri Land. They are on display in the city hall and at the Inagi Station Pair Terrace.

4 Mecha Designers Summit (held from FY2012 to FY2020)

Hosted by Mr. Kunio Okawara, a leading mechanical designer in the animation industry and resident of Inagi City, we welcome guests from across genres and generations to discuss topics such as "design" and "manufacturing" based on seasonal themes and his interests. We have held events to discuss the theme of "Creation."
