First win after 16 years of longing
Photo Mr. Ota (left)
Mr. Ota, who lives in Wakabadai, participated in the "81st Nippon Commercial Development Co., Ltd. All Japan Veteran Tennis Championship '19" (October 2019, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture) and won the 50-year-old division doubles. In singles, I achieved a great result of top 8.
Mr. Ota has participated in this tournament for 16 years in a row, and his best result so far was second place, but in this first tournament in Reiwa, he won his long-awaited first victory. Looking back on the tournament, he said that it was good that he was able to keep in good shape throughout the tournament, and that he was able to go into the match comfortably as usual.
The All Japan Veteran Tennis Championships, where tennis enthusiasts from all over the country gather, is also a place for players to interact. It seems that there was also a reunion with the players for the first time in decades. I met Mr. Koshiishi (who lives in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture), my doubles partner who won the championship this time, at the All Japan Veteran Tennis Championships. They've been playing doubles for three years, but they don't usually practice together, and they only see each other on the day of the tournament four times a year.

Mr. Ota started playing tennis when he was in junior high school, when he joined the soft tennis club with his friends. In high school, I belonged to the soccer club at the beginning, but I joined the tennis club halfway through, and then joined the tennis club in college. was Currently, in order to participate in the tournament, I practice two or three times a week at the tennis courts in the city while balancing work.
When asked about the appeal of tennis, he said, "It's a place where you can continue playing even as you get older, and the spectators can enjoy it because the bargaining during the match is interesting." Let's support Mr. Ota, who has set a future goal of "continuing to play tennis and winning the All Japan Veteran Tennis Championships again".
