An alternative event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay has been held!

Updated: July 9, 2021

The Olympic Torch Relay, which was scheduled to run in the city on Friday, July 9, 2021, has been canceled due to the influence of the new coronavirus infection.

Therefore, an alternative event was held on the same day at Machida Shibahiro in Machida City with only those involved.

On the day of the event, Mayor Inagi lit the torch for the first runner, and the 21 torchbearers who were scheduled to run in the city connected the torch with a torch kiss.

Unfortunately, it was not able to run on public roads, but the torch relay was carried out by the torchbearers who were smiling from beginning to end.
