READY STEADY TOKYO - Cycling competition (road) was held (July 21, 2019)

Updated: July 24, 2019

On Sunday, July 21, 2019, the test event "READY STEADY TOKYO - Cycling (Road)" was held in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Cycling (Road).
96 athletes from all over the world participated in this tournament, and they competed in an exciting race.
As a result, Italian athletes took 1st and 2nd place, making it a tournament where Italians showed their strength.

Additionally, this time the course was run on a course that excluded some sections of the actual race, but it gave the impression that it was a very tough course, with 49 people completing the course, which is about half of the participants.
The 2020 actual course will be approximately 55km longer, totaling approximately 244km, and is rumored to be the toughest course in Olympic history.
It will be interesting to see how the world's top athletes, who were unable to participate in the test event due to scheduling conflicts with the Tour de France, will tackle this difficult course in 2020.

Players ahead of the group. I was able to witness the moment of ``escape'', the most basic strategy, in Inagi City.

The runners stayed at the back of the pack to reduce air resistance and conserve their energy. Each country's strategy began right from the start.

There were many spectators watching along the road. Road races don't require spectator tickets, so anyone can cheer on them up close.

The course supporters also played an active role!

In Inagi City, 331 course supporters participated, regulating traffic and directing spectators.
