About pneumococcal infection vaccination for the elderly

We provide routine vaccinations against pneumococcal disease for the elderly.
Note: The out-of-pocket costs for vaccinations from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025 will be reduced.

Target audience

Those who are registered as residents of Inagi City on the day of vaccination, who fall under either (1) or (2) below, and who have not previously received the 23-valent pneumococcal vaccine.
(1) Those aged 65 or older (from the day before their 65th birthday to the day before their 66th birthday)
(2) Those aged 60 to 65 as of the date of vaccination who have a cardiac, renal, or respiratory disorder (class 1 disability certificate) or a disability caused by the human immunodeficiency virus that makes daily life almost impossible
Note: This does not apply to people who have already received the 23-valent pneumococcal vaccine (23 - valent pneumococcal capsular polysaccharide vaccine).

Individual notification from FY2024

Individual notices will be sent to those turning 65 at the end of the month preceding their birthday.
Note 1: The vaccine will be sent the month before your birth, but please note that you will not be able to receive the vaccine until after you turn 65 years old.
Note 2: Those who turned 65 in fiscal year 2023 and did not receive the vaccination in fiscal year 2023 can continue to receive the vaccination until the day before their 66th birthday.

Place of inoculation

It will be an individual inoculation at a designated medical institution in the city. Some medical institutions require an appointment, so please check in advance.
Note: If you wish to be vaccinated at a medical institution outside the city, you will need to apply in advance, so please contact the Health Center.

Number of inoculations

One time vaccination. The pneumococcal vaccine is injected intramuscularly or subcutaneously.

price

1,500 yen (after the copayment has been reduced)
This applies only to vaccinations given between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025.
Note: If the above target individuals are from a household receiving welfare assistance and bring a "Certificate of Welfare Receipt," or if Japanese nationals remaining in China, etc., bring a "Certificate of Support Benefit Receipt" to a medical institution, the full cost of medical treatment will be covered by public funds (free of charge).

Health insurance card, etc., or if you fall under (2) above, a disability certificate or doctor's certificate
Note: The pre-examination form will be enclosed with the individual notification. It is also available at health centers and designated medical institutions.

Notes

If any of the following applies to you, taking into account your health condition and constitution, please consult with your doctor.

  1. Those who clearly have underlying diseases such as cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, liver disease, blood disease and developmental disorders
  2. Those who have had a fever within 2 days after vaccination and those who have had symptoms suspected of allergies such as generalized rash.
  3. Those with a history of convulsions in the past
  4. Those who have been diagnosed with immunodeficiency in the past or those who have close relatives with congenital immunodeficiency
  5. Those who may be allergic to the components of the pneumococcal vaccine
