Mandatory microchip for dogs and cats
Update date: June 1, 2022
Microchip registration system for dogs and cats
From June 1, 2020, it will be mandatory for dogs and cats sold at breeders, pet shops, etc. to be equipped with microchips.
Dogs and cats purchased from breeders or pet shops are equipped with a microchip, so the owner will need to "change registration" to change the microchip information.
In addition, if a dog or cat that does not already have a microchip has a new microchip installed at a veterinary hospital, you will need to register the owner information for the microchip.
If you already own a dog or cat, please place a microchip on your dog or cat if possible.
If a dog is microchipped, the microchip is considered a rabies tag.
For more information on the microchip registration system for dogs and cats, please visit the Ministry of the Environment's website below.

Dogs without a microchip
Dogs must be registered with the city.
Dog owners must register their dogs within 30 days from the date they take possession of the dog.
Additionally, if you own a dog that is less than 90 days old, you must register the dog within 30 days from the day the dog is 90 days old.
Please attach the dog license tag issued at the time of registration to your dog. It serves as proof of registration and also serves as a lost child tag.
If you have not yet registered, please do so at the Health Center or Hirao/Wakabadai Branch Office.
Information on moving in and out
Dogs whose microchip has been registered do not need to notify the city of moving out or moving in, but they do need to report changes to the Ministry of the Environment or a designated registration agency. Therefore, please access the URL below and complete the procedures to change your dog's location, etc.
Note: Please prepare your registration certificate.
