Acceptance of disaster waste generated by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in 2024

Start of regional processing and acceptance of disaster waste generated by the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake

 In the areas affected by the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, a large amount of disaster waste has been generated due to the demolition and removal of damaged houses and other structures. In order to preserve the living environment and ensure public health, it is urgent to dispose of this waste appropriately, smoothly and quickly. Recently, Tokyo has begun accepting this waste at its waste disposal plants, based on a request from the Ministry of the Environment and Ishikawa Prefecture.

1. Disaster areas where wide-area processing will be carried out

Wajima City and Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture

2. Types of disaster waste, etc.

Burnable garbage (including wood chips)

3 Estimated processing volume (maximum processing volume)

Up to 40,000 tons (total for Tokyo, Yokohama, and Kawasaki cities up to March 31, 2026)

4. Period of Acceptance

From September 27, 2024 to March 31, 2026, however this may change depending on the status of building demolition in the affected areas.

5. Waste treatment plants

Tokyo's 23 wards waste incineration plants, 15 waste incineration plants in the Tama area
