What is land readjustment project?

Updated: December 20, 2006

In the event of a disaster, it may be difficult to evacuate or emergency vehicles such as fire engines may not be able to enter in areas where old houses are crowded together, buildings are built in a disorderly manner, or roads are narrow.
In order to solve this problem, land readjustment projects are a method of having land owners provide land little by little, developing public facilities such as roads and parks, and good residential land, and creating a safe and secure town. .

*Reduced steps are pronounced "genbu".
