Be careful of fake hometown tax donation sites!
Updated: July 3, 2024
Regarding fake hometown tax donation sites impersonating local organizations
Recently, malicious fake websites have been found all over the country, masquerading as local organizations and pretending to accept donations under the hometown tax system.
There have already been cases of people transferring cash only to have their gifts not arrive.
If you are making a donation through a hometown tax payment site that you have not used before, or if you suspect something suspicious, please check the details before applying, and be careful of malicious scams.
If you discover a fake city website, please contact the General Affairs and Contracts Division.
Note: Inagi City does not accept applications for "Hometown Tax" via the Internet other than through the portal site listed in "Apply for Inagi City Support Donations (Hometown Tax) here (internal link)."
Characteristics of fake sites
- Advertising special prices, such as displaying large discounts from the regular price.
- There is no information about the local government's address, contact information, email address, etc.
- Images of reward items used on hometown tax donation sites are reproduced to pretend to be genuine sites.
- If the payment method is bank transfer, the account holder's name is an individual's name or company's name.
The above is just an example.
There are also other sites that use clever tricks to disguise themselves as legitimate sites, so please be careful when entering personal information or making credit card payments.
