Regarding the Reiwa 6 amendment to the Child Allowance Law

The child allowance system will change from the December 2024 payment (October and November payments) (national system)
The Act to amend the Child and Childcare Support Act, etc. (Act No. 47 of 2024), which includes a fundamental expansion of child allowances based on the Children's Future Strategy (Cabinet decision of December 22, 2023), was promulgated on June 12, 2024.
Please check with the Agency for Children and Families for details of the system.
Summary of the Reiwa 6 Law Amendments
The system will be revised in October 2024, and child allowances will be paid under the new system starting from the December payment.
- Elimination of income restrictions
- Expanding the scope of eligible children from junior high school students to high school students (at the end of the school year when they turn 18)
- Increase in the multiple child allowance for the third and subsequent children from 15,000 yen per month to 30,000 yen per month
- The third child count is expanded from high school students and younger to college students and younger (at the end of the school year when they turn 22).
- Changed the number of payments from three times a year to six times a year (December, February, April, June, August, October)
Note: If you are a civil servant, your place of employment will provide this benefit. Please contact your employer.

About application
Those who need to apply
・Those who are not eligible for child allowance (all children are of high school age or older, income exceeds the upper limit, etc.)
Those who qualify for child allowance and have custody of a university-age child. Note: If you have not applied yet, please apply as soon as possible.
Those who do not need to apply
・Those who qualify for child allowance and do not have custody of a university-aged child ・Public servants (please apply through your workplace)
Those who have been transferred
If you are caring for a child of high school age or younger and you are moving in, you will need to go through certain procedures.
Please be sure to stop by the Childcare Support Division. (You can also apply at a branch office.)
Notification of qualification
Send out a notification
Newly approved recipients will be sent a "Child Allowance Approval Notice."
If your allowance is approved, you will be sent a "Child Allowance Amount Revision Notice."
Shipping time
The certificates will be delivered to applicants' homes in sequence from the end of October.
When you receive the documents, be sure to check the contents.
Note: We are shipping to everyone in order. Please be patient until your item arrives.
About the system before the law change
Until September 2024, payments will be made under the system in place before the legal revision.
Payment will be made in October (with some exceptions).

Application form
This document is for those who are caring for a child of high school age or older who has moved their residency outside the city .
The process for submission is as follows:
- Call City Hall
- Provide the applicant's name, date of birth, etc.
- Inform them that you are taking care of a child of high school age or older who has moved their residence registration outside the city.
- Download, fill out and submit the documents as instructed by the city hall.

This document is for those who have lost the documents they received or have not completed their application .
