Updated: June 18, 2024
Cabinet Office call centers, local governments, consumer affairs centers, etc. are receiving information about calls, emails, letters, visits, etc. that take advantage of the My Number system and attempt to solicit or obtain personal information.
Please be careful about suspicious phone calls, emails, letters, visits, etc. pretending to be from the My Number system, and use the consultation desk depending on the content.
Note: In procedures such as notification and use of My Number and issuance of Individual Number Cards, related government ministries and local governments collect information on account numbers, account PINs, income and assets, family structure, pension and insurance information, etc. We will never ask you any questions or ask for money or cash cards. We will never ask you to operate an ATM. Please do not respond to phone calls, letters, or visits with such content.
Cases of fraud using My Number
- A person claiming to be a city hall employee visited the victim and told them, ``I'm from city hall. My number card costs money,'' and was defrauded out of money under the pretext of paying the registration fee for my number card.
- ``Your personal information has been leaked,'' ``Please be sure to follow the necessary procedures to protect your personal information,'' ``If your My Number information is leaked, you will be able to easily change your residence card, open a bank account, etc.'' I received an email stating that I had to purchase electronic money to cover the cost of deleting my personal information, and was defrauded by having me send the number needed to use the electronic money.
