About change such as measurement frequency of city space radiation dose
Updated: October 15, 2020
In the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake, from June 2011, city elementary and junior high schools, nursery schools, kindergartens, etc. carried out fixed-point measurements of spatial radiation dose at 5 cm and 100 cm above the ground. I did it once.
In addition, since February 2012, we have selected places where rainwater, dust, and dirt tend to accumulate, such as under rain gutters and rainwater pits of public facilities, and have measured the spatial radiation dose at 1 cm above the ground once a year. Measurements were taken at 729 facilities.
Under such circumstances, the measurement results from 2011 to the present are stable and below the standard value (0.23 microsieverts per hour) indicated by the Ministry of the Environment. Due to reasons such as the values of the radiation monitoring posts that were installed in Shinjuku Ward dropping to the values before the earthquake, we will suspend the measurement of the radiation dose in the city space after 2021. However, if any concerns arise, the measurement will be resumed immediately.
