About Housing Security Benefits

Housing security benefits are provided to people who have lost or are at risk of losing their housing due to financial hardship due to job loss, closure of self-employment, loss of income due to unavoidable leave of absence, etc., to help them find employment. Under this system, the city will provide the landlord with an amount equivalent to the rent (with an upper limit) for a period of 3 months (with extensions available), subject to certain conditions.

• Opportunities to earn income have decreased within two years of leaving your job or closing your business, or due to unavoidable reasons.
• Household income in the month of application is below a certain amount (Example upper limit) 137,700 yen for a 1-person household, 194,000 yen for a 2-person household
• The total amount of deposits, savings, and cash is below a certain amount (example upper limit): 504,000 yen for a 1-person household, 780,000 yen for a 2-person household (subject to change upon extension)
• Prior to the onset of the above condition, the person was the primary provider of income for the household.
• Example of upper limit of rent payment amount: 53,700 yen for a single-person household, 64,000 yen for a two-person household, etc.
• Payment period: 3 months in principle (extension system available)
