Sakahama Hirao Area
Updated: March 24, 2022
This district is located approximately 20 kilometers southwest of the Shinjuku subcenter and is the entrance to Tama New Town. The Keio Sagamihara Line passes through the center of the district, and the Misawa River, a first-class river, and the Tsurukawa Highway run almost parallel to it.
The current situation around this area is about 1.9 km from east to west and about 1.9 km from north to south, surrounded by Tama New Town to the north, Tokyo Yomiuri Country Club and Komazawa Gakuen to the east, Hirao housing complex to the south, and Kurikidai, Asao Ward, Kawasaki City to the west. It is an area of about 212 hectares that spans 2.0 kilometers.
Basic Policy for Town Development
The Sakahama-Hirao area is located in the lush green Tama hills, and there are many satoyama (satoyama) and thickets that have been closely related to people's lives since ancient times, as well as many historic shrines and temples. However, the development pressure is increasing due to the location conditions relatively close to the Shinjuku sub-center and the progress of urbanization in the surrounding area. For this reason, there is a risk that urbanization will progress in a disorderly manner, and systematic urban development is necessary to prevent this from happening.
In August 1997, the city plan for the "Sakahama-Hirao Land Readjustment Project" was decided by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. However, implementation of the land readjustment project has become difficult due to changes in the Tokyo government's public housing supply policy and deterioration in business profitability due to the long-term economic stagnation.
For this reason, the local community, Inagi City, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government formed the Sakahama Hirao Community Development Review Committee, and decided to: (1) develop the community through district planning, (2) maintain the current environment, and (3) implement the union. We decided to review town development in three divisions of maintenance promotion area.
After that, on October 4, 2007, the Sakahama West district district planning decision was made in (1) town development area in district planning. In the area of (3), the Kamihirao district (area of about 25.1 hectares) has completed the land readjustment project by the union, and the Odara district (about 29.3 hectares) has been land readjustment project by the union. is in force.
