About Tax Deductions for Donations
For the portion of the hometown tax (donation) amount that exceeds 2,000 yen, the full amount will be deducted from Income Tax and individual resident tax, up to a certain limit.
(1) Those who will file a tax return or a resident tax declaration
To apply for a deduction for donations from Income Tax and Resident Tax, it is necessary to file a final tax return.
- The receipt you receive upon payment can be used as proof of your donation, so please keep it in a safe place.
- Please file your final tax return (Income Tax return) with the tax office in your jurisdiction or your Municipal Resident Tax return with your municipality by March 15 of the year following your Furusato Nozei donation. Please attach the receipt at that time.
- When you file your tax return, it will be deducted (refunded) from the Income Tax for the year you made your hometown tax donation. Additionally, the resident tax for the following year after making the hometown tax donation will also be deducted (reduced).
- When you file your resident tax declaration, the resident tax for the following year after making a hometown tax donation will be deducted (reduced).
In addition, using the My Number Portal linkage for automatic input is convenient when filing a tax return.
With the My Number Portal linkage, it is possible to automatically input deduction information such as hometown tax and Medical Expenses, as well as income information such as withholding tax slips for salary income and Pension income. Furthermore, information obtained through the My Number Portal linkage, such as donation receipt certificates, can be sent as attached document data along with the tax return data when submitting the tax return via e-Tax (electronic filing), so there is no need to submit or keep paper donation receipt certificates.
Please note that prior preparation is required to use the My Number Portal linkage. Depending on the issuing authority of the deduction certificates, it may take several days after completing the linkage procedure to obtain the data for the deduction certificates, so please prepare in advance.
For more details, please refer to the National Tax Agency's "My Number Portal Linkage Special Page" and "Tax Return Preparation Corner."
