Overview of Ozora Town

Ozora Town is located in the Okhotsk region in northeastern Hokkaido, and was established on March 31, 2006, when the towns of Memanbetsu and Higashimokoto merged.

It has a population of 6,510 (as of the end of June 2024) and an area of 343.66 square kilometers (approximately 20 times the size of Inagi City).

Memanbetsu Airport, which is the gateway to Okhotsk, is a town rich in seasonal nature such as Lake Abashiri, Mt.
The main industry is agriculture, with wheat, potatoes, sugar beet (raw material for granulated sugar), beans, vegetables, and a wide variety of rice grown in the easternmost part of Japan.

Meaning of town name (origin)

The name Ozora Town is intended (meaning) for residents to have dreams and hopes and live a sunny and sunny life under the clear sky and the fertile land that spreads under the sky. named.

Abashiri Lake Memanbetsu Lakeside

Lake Abashiri Memanbetsu, located in Abashiri Quasi-National Park, is so beautiful and rich in nature that it was selected as one of Hokkaido's top 100 landscapes.

Exchange with Ozora Town

In 1988, an exchange of works by children from the former Memanbetsu Town was introduced by a former principal of a metropolitan high school.
A sister city affiliation was signed in 1991 (at the time of the former Memanbetsu Town), after which Memanbetsu Town and Higashimokoto Village merged, and in July 2006, they signed a sister city relationship again.
Today, exchanges are taking place not only in the field of education, but also in a wide range of fields such as culture, sports, industry and economy.

30th anniversary of sister city affiliation with Ozora Town

Inagi City and Ozora Town celebrated the 30th anniversary of their sister city partnership in November 2021. This relationship has continued since it was established with Memanbetsu Town in 1991, before the two towns merged.

Currently, exchanges with Ozora Town are rooted among the citizens of Inagi, such as exchanges between arts and culture groups and stalls at citizen festivals. The fact that exchanges continue across generations in the midst of rapidly changing social conditions is the result of the residents of both sides carefully nurturing the fire of exchanges. This connection has become an irreplaceable asset in both municipalities.
