The Act to amend the Child and Childcare Support Act, etc. (Act No. 47 of 2024), which includes a fundamental expansion of child allowances based on the Children's Future Strategy (Cabinet decision of December 22, 2023), was promulgated on June 12, 2024.
Please check with the Agency for Children and Families for details of the system.
The system will be revised in October 2024, and child allowances will be paid under the new system starting from the December payment.
Note: If you are a civil servant, your place of employment will provide this benefit. Please contact your employer.
To help you visualize the amount of payments under the new system, we have created a simulation based on the number of children. Please refer to it.
・Those who are not eligible for child allowance (all children are of high school age or older, income exceeds the upper limit, etc.)
Those who qualify for child allowance and have custody of a university-age child. Note: If you have not applied yet, please apply as soon as possible.
・Those who qualify for child allowance and do not have custody of a university-aged child ・Public servants (please apply through your workplace)
If you are caring for a child of high school age or younger and you are moving in, you will need to go through certain procedures.
Please be sure to stop by the Childcare Support Division. (You can also apply at a branch office.)
Newly approved recipients will be sent a "Child Allowance Approval Notice."
If your allowance is approved, you will be sent a "Child Allowance Amount Revision Notice."
The certificates will be delivered to applicants' homes in sequence from the end of October.
When you receive the documents, be sure to check the contents.
Note: We are shipping to everyone in order. Please be patient until your item arrives.
Until September 2024, payments will be made under the system in place before the legal revision.
Payment will be made in October (with some exceptions).
