Achieved a reduction of approximately 1,600 tons in burnable and non-burnable waste in fiscal year 2023

Last updated: April 23, 2024

FY2023 Collection volume of combustible, non-combustible, plastic waste, etc. (Preliminary figures)

We started recycling plastic waste in April 2023, and have been able to recycle approximately 850 tons per year, and glass and ceramics approximately 70 tons per year, for a total of approximately 920 tons.
In addition, the amount of combustible and non-combustible waste collected in fiscal year 2023 was approximately 12,700 tons, a decrease of approximately 1,600 tons compared to fiscal year 2022.

Regarding the amount of combustible and non-burnable waste collected, this has been the largest reduction since fees for waste were introduced in fiscal 2004, in a city where the population is growing. We believe that this great achievement is the result of citizens and businesses working together to separate and recycle waste.
We appreciate your continued understanding and cooperation in reducing waste and recycling.

Although these are preliminary figures,
The total amount of waste generated per person per day, including combustible, non-combustible, bulky waste, and recyclable materials, was 673g, a decrease of 28g compared to fiscal year 2022, and the resource recycling rate was 34.7%, an increase of 4.1 points compared to fiscal year 2022.

Notes: Total waste generated : the sum of combustible, non-combustible, bulky waste, city-collected recyclables, collective collection, and brought-in waste
