The city is located at the eastern end of the Minamitama district, bordering Kawasaki City in Kanagawa Prefecture from the southeast to the west, bordering Fuchu City and Chofu City across the Tama River to the north, and Tama City to the west.

It is located about 25 kilometers southwest of Shinjuku in the center of Tokyo (139°30'16" east longitude, 35°38'17" north latitude) and is about 5.3 kilometers east-west and north-south, with an area of 17.97 square kilometers. It is almost triangular with the Tama River as one side.

On the south side, parallel to the Tama River, there are gentle Tama hills with an altitude of about 45 to 80 meters (max. The Yato River flows through the Daimaru area from the southwest to the northeast.
