What is an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)?

What is an AED ( Automated External Defibrillator )?

It is said that about 30,000 people die annually in Japan from sudden cardiac death, where the heart suddenly stops, and ventricular fibrillation is one of the main direct causes of sudden cardiac death.
The heart acts as a pump that circulates blood throughout the body in a regular rhythm. Ventricular fibrillation is a condition in which the ventricles of the heart quiver and fail to pump blood.
Ventricular fibrillation can only be defibrillated and returned to normal with an electric shock. Therefore, it is important to defibrillate as quickly as possible, and the AED is a device that determines whether defibrillation is necessary and defibrillates with an electric shock if necessary.
The AEDs installed in public facilities in the city have been made easier to use by displaying instructions on how to use them with pictures and letters on the main unit display along with voice guidance.

The AEDs listed on this map are those installed in public institutions, as well as the AEDs installed in private establishments, with the cooperation of each establishment.
Although it is limited to when each business office is open and the AED is not in use within the business premises, it can also be used in case something happens to nearby citizens.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the people at the private businesses and ask that they use the facility appropriately.

A nationwide AED map based on information registered by AED installers is also available on the website of the Japan First Aid Foundation.
Note: Inagi map is a separate AED map.
