If you are a student (note 1) and find it difficult to pay your insurance premiums, please use the "Special Payment System for Students" which allows you to apply for a deferral of insurance premium payments while you are enrolled in school.
All people living in Japan become insured by the National Pension from the time they turn 20 years old and are required to pay insurance premiums, but students whose income is below a certain level (Note 2) are required to pay insurance premiums. There is a ``Student Payment Special System,'' which allows students to apply for a deferral of payment of insurance premiums while enrolled in school. Please note that the income of the family members does not matter.
(Note 1) Students are those enrolled in universities (graduate schools), junior colleges, high schools, technical colleges, vocational schools, various schools (Note 3), and Japanese branch offices of some overseas universities, including night and regular hours. Most students are eligible, including those enrolled in formal and correspondence courses.
(Note 2) Previous year's income standard (applicant only)
1,280,000 yen + number of dependents x 380,000 yen + social insurance premium deduction, etc.
(Note 3) Miscellaneous schools are schools with a course period of one year or more and that are approved by the prefectural governor.
From April to March of the following year If you have been approved for the special student payment system this year and will be attending the same school next year, the Japan Pension Service will send you a postcard-format ``Application Form for Special Student Payment.'' . You can complete the procedure by filling out the necessary information and sending it back. The examination results will be notified by the Japan Pension Service at a later date.
In principle, to receive the basic pension for the elderly, you must have paid insurance premiums for at least 10 years, but the period during which you have been approved for the student payment exemption system is included in the 10-year period of eligibility to receive the basic pension for the elderly. However, it is not included in the period that is used to calculate the amount of the basic pension for the elderly (Note: to receive the full amount of the basic pension for the elderly, you must have paid insurance premiums for 40 years).
For this reason, in order to receive the full amount of the basic old-age pension in the future, you can pay (back) the insurance premiums for the student exemption period going back up to 10 years (however, when back-paying premiums from the third year or earlier, a certain amount will be added to the insurance premiums paid at that time).
In the event of an unexpected situation such as disability or death, in order to claim a basic disability pension or a basic pension for survivors, one of the following payment requirements is required. , this is the period covered by the relevant requirements, so you can rest assured in the event of an emergency.
(1) As of the day before the first medical examination or the date of death, two-thirds or more of the insured period (including the premium exemption period) of the insured period up to two months before the month of the first medical examination or death date is two-thirds or more (2) If the date of first medical examination or date of death is before March 31, 2020, insurance premiums will be paid for the most recent year up to two months before the date of first medical examination or death on the day before the date of first medical examination or death. No outstanding payments

Notes <br id="3"/>You can pay your insurance premiums retroactively (later payment) within 10 years during the period when you have been approved for the student payment exception. However, if you make a late payment of your insurance premiums from the third year onward, counting from the year following the period in which you received special student payment approval, an additional amount will be added to your current insurance premiums according to the elapsed period.
