No. 44 Observing fire department general education training

Last updated: July 15, 2015

(Published in the July 15, 2015 issue of Koho Inagi)

On May 17, 2015, I visited the general education training site to encourage the fire brigade. The training this time is a practical one, renting a building scheduled to be demolished in the former Daimaru No. 1 metropolitan housing complex. It was a rare opportunity for firefighters to train in an actual building, so it was a valuable experience for me as well.
In fact, before the construction of Toei Daimaru Apartment, which is now high-rise and has been completely rebuilt, it seems that they had rented a building that was scheduled to be demolished and trained in the same way as this time, but at that time there was no destruction or water discharge. They said they couldn't.
However, this time there are no particular conditions regarding the use of the building that is scheduled to be demolished, and it is possible to destroy it and spray water as long as it is necessary for training.
The drill assumed a fire from a living room on the second floor, water spraying from the south veranda direction, and the north entrance door being destroyed and rushing in and spraying water. The 1st to 8th divisions who participated in the training were to burn off the iron entrance door with the engine cutters deployed in each division, unlock it, extend the fire hose from the stairs, rush into the room, and spray water. All members were able to experience it.
Since the occurrence of the Great East Japan Earthquake, the city has strengthened the deployment of various materials and equipment to the fire brigade, but the key to disaster response is skilled human resources.
It is very reassuring for citizens that the young people who are engaged in the fire brigade while doing their own work on a daily basis will further improve their skills through such advanced training.
Even though it was May before the start of the rainy season, the sunlight was dazzling from the morning, and I would like to express my deepest respect to all the members who worked earnestly while wearing fireproof clothing and sweating, and please kindly provide the facilities this time. I would like to express my gratitude to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Urban Development.
