For those who have dogs or cats

Last updated: August 13, 2024

If owners do not know how to properly care for a dog or cat, it can not only harm the animal's health, but can also cause inconvenience and harm to people. Owners have a responsibility to understand the habits and physiology of living animals and to care for them with love for their entire lives.
We have also received complaints from residents about dogs being allowed to run loose or not cleaning up after their droppings while being walked. Please be mindful of your manners when keeping a dog.

Abandoning a dog or cat is punishable by law.

Please treat your pet with love and responsibility for its entire life. Owners who do not wish to breed should have their pets spayed or neutered. Spaying or neutering your pet will prevent it from spraying urine, crying during rutting, and fighting with other animals. It also has the added benefit of making your pet more docile and easier to handle.

Train your dog

If you have a dog, be sure to train it properly. Training is essential for humans and dogs to live successfully in the same society. Please at least teach your dog to obey the owner's commands, not to bark unnecessarily, and not to attack people or other animals.

Stop letting dogs roam free

Keeping dogs free is prohibited by Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance. When walking your dog, be sure to keep it on a leash (leash, leash, etc.) to prevent trouble.

Be sure to take your droppings home

Feces left unattended can be very unpleasant. When you go for a walk, be sure to bring a disposal bag with you to take home the droppings. Also, in densely populated areas, please make sure your pet has urinated before going for a walk.
By getting your dog into the habit of defecating in a specific place in the house, you won't have to deal with feces and urine when you go for a walk, and you won't have to go for a walk on a rainy day. Please help your child develop the habit of defecating at home. Also, if you urinate on gateposts, telephone poles, etc., be sure to wash them off with water.

Keep cats indoors

If cats have an exercise environment where they can move up and down, they can be kept safely at home without any accidents. Tips for successful indoor breeding include making sure your pet can climb on top of furniture to allow for up-and-down movement, providing a specialized toilet, scratcher, etc., and spaying and neutering your pet.

Wear your license plate or name tag.

Many animals get lost and are unable to return to their owners. Dogs should be given license tags, and cats and other animals should be given name tags to make it clear who the owner is responsible for and to make it easier to find animals that can no longer be returned to their owners. Sho. It will also be useful in the event of a large-scale disaster that is expected to occur in the future.

Post a dog sign

People who keep dogs are required to display a sign indicating that they keep a dog in a place that is easily visible from the outside, near the entrance to the land or building where the facility is located (Article 9 of the Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance on the Welfare and Management of Animals).
There is no set shape for dog signs. Please display something that shows that you have a dog in a visible place such as the entrance. If you make your own sign, please print it on waterproof (laminated) paper or regular paper and paste a waterproof sticker on top of it. Dog sign stickers are also available for distribution at the following address.

Preparation for emergencies

A dog suddenly has to be hospitalized, an accident while out and about can't return home for a while, or the owner has passed away...
In times like these, is there anyone who can take care of the pets left at home? Pets cannot ask for help themselves. It is essential for you, the pet owner, to be prepared for emergencies.

Find someone to entrust your pet with
