Inagi City

Please be careful of solicitations for inspection and cleaning of drainage equipment in residential areas.

Last updated: September 30, 2019

Recently, there have been an increasing number of cases where contractors visit homes, pretending to be from the city or the Tokyo Metropolitan Sewerage Bureau, and recommend inspecting and cleaning the drainage facilities within residential properties.
Drainage facilities within residential areas are privately owned and the owner is responsible for their maintenance.
Some companies say things like "we were asked by the city hall" or "it's required by law," but inspecting and cleaning drainage systems within residential areas is not required by law, and the city never commissions such companies.
Additionally, in the Tama area, there have been cases of contractors visiting people and offering to clean or repair their drainage facilities, and if people refuse, they are intimidated or forced to sign contracts using threatening language.
If you do not require an inspection or cleaning, please clearly decline the request, and if you have any questions, please contact the Inagi City Sewerage Department.
