The Takahashi family in Sakahama has a collection of 364 ancient documents from the Edo period. The contents of the ancient documents mainly include the Edo period Sakahama village land survey book, annual tax-related documents, and water-related documents, and they reveal the state of Sakahama village at the time and the lives of the farmers who lived there. We have all the materials you need to know. The ancient documents were created over a period of 153 years, from 1717 to 1870. We will introduce some of the most important basic materials among the valuable early modern documents. (In addition to the early modern documents introduced here, the Takahashi family also preserves modern materials from the Meiji period onwards.)

Yamakata Nengukaisaikotegata (Takahashi family document 4)

Nengukaisaikotegata is a certificate given by Nanushi to the farmer who paid the annual tax. It is the most visible document among the Takahashi family documents, with 220 items, accounting for more than half of the entire Takahashi family document. This document is the oldest document among the Nengukaisai Kotegata, created in December 1746, and was created in the new rice field of Sakahama Village. These are materials that may be related to development.

Muranaka Johoren Pancho Copy (Takahashi Family Document 54)

This document is generally referred to as the ``muranyuyocho''. In the Edo period, villages were managed mainly by village officials (murayakunin), and the costs of running the village were borne by all the farmers in the village. This is generally called ``muranyuyo'' (village use), and the book that records the expenses and the proportion of burden is called ``muranyuyocho'' (village usebook). This document was created on New Year's Day, 1772, and provides detailed information on how Sakahama Village was managed at the time and the costs borne by the village. This is a document. The village use book (Komonjo), which was discovered in Inagi City, is a valuable document as there is only one copy in Yanoguchi Village.

Dounomae Irrigation Weir Construction Contract (Takahashi Family Document 120)

This document is a document from when the Donomae Weir on the Misawa River (to the east of present-day Keio Line Wakabadai Station) was damaged by heavy wind and rain, and the cost of repairing it was received from the feudal lord. . Repairs to weirs, etc. were sometimes carried out at their own expense, and sometimes with assistance from the feudal lord, as shown in this document. One of the characteristics of the Takahashi family documents is that they contain materials related to irrigation. This document was created in August 1791.

Goyokin Uketori Shomon (Takahashi family document 304)

In June 1853, Perry appeared off the coast of Uraga with four warships. During this uproar, the surrounding villages were forced to pay for men, horses, and provisions. This document is a letter of acknowledgment from a jito when the cost was collected from the villagers for the jito to perform military service for defense. Perry's arrival also affected the villages of Inagi in this way.

Ouraitegata for bathing in Izu (Takahashi family document 291)

This document is an uraitegata, which is a document for going to a hot spring in Izu for medical treatment. Koshoji Temple in Sakahama Village proves that you are a Danka, and issues an ``Orai Issatsu'' to request permission to pass to Hakone Checkpoint and other places. I provided personal guarantee. This document was created in the first year of the Kaei era (1848), and shows that in the late Edo period in the Tama area, it was common to go to hot spring areas such as Izu and Hakone for medical treatment. It seems like it was.
