First aid until the ambulance arrives (cardiopulmonary resuscitation using AED)

Last updated: June 1, 2020

Demonstrate how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation using an AED.
For those who want to know more, we recommend that you take a life-saving course conducted by the fire department.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedure

Perform CPR by following steps 1-12 and wait for the ambulance to arrive.

Step 1 Check the safety of the surroundings

First, make sure the surroundings are safe, then approach the victim.

Step 2 Check reaction (consciousness)

Tap the victim's shoulder lightly while asking "Are you okay?" to see if he/she responds.

Step 3 Call for help

If there is no response, call for help with a loud voice and gestures and ask for "Call 119" or "Bring an AED."
If there is no cooperator, first call 119 by yourself, and if there is an AED nearby, go get it.

Step 4 Check breathing

While watching the movements of the patient's chest and abdomen, check for normal breathing within 10 seconds .
If the chest and abdomen do not move or are in doubt, begin chest compressions immediately.

Step 5 Chest Compression

If the person is not breathing normally, start chest compressions immediately.
Place both hands in the center of the chest and press firmly from directly above until the chest sinks about 5cm vertically at a rate of 100 to 120 times per minute .

Step 6 Secure the airway

Place one hand on your forehead and the index and middle fingers of your other hand on your chin.

Step 7 Ventilation

With the airway secured, pinch the patient's nose with the thumb and forefinger of the hand on the forehead. Open your mouth wide and cover the mouth of the wounded,
Breathe in twice (one second each time) so that the opponent's chest rises without letting the air escape.

Step 8 Continue CPR (30 vs 2)

Give 2 rescue breaths after 30 consecutive chest compressions. Keep going until the ambulance takes over.

Step 9 Use AED

When the AED arrives, remove it from its case, place it near the patient, and press the power button. (Some models automatically turn on when the lid is opened.) After that, operate according to the voice message.

Step 10 Attach electrode pads

Remove the victim's clothing and expose the chest. At that time, if there is a patch on your chest, remove it, and if your chest is wet with sweat, wipe it off with the attached towel.
Open the electrode pad bag, peel off the sheet, and stick the adhesive side firmly to your chest. (The position to paste is indicated by a picture on the main body and the electrode pad.)

The mounting position is indicated on the main body and electrode pads.

Step 11. Perform analysis and electric shock

AED examines an electrocardiogram when I put an electrode pad. A voice message will be played saying "Please do not touch the body".
Remind people to stay away and make sure no one is touching the victim. If the AED determines that a shock should be delivered, charging will begin.
After charging is complete, make sure no one is touching the victim again and press the shock button (flashing button) before delivering an electric shock.

Step 12 Repeat CPR and AED

Resume cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately after delivering an electric shock. After about 2 minutes, the AED will automatically analyze the electrocardiogram again, so please follow the voice message. After that, repeat cardiopulmonary resuscitation and electrocardiogram analysis with AED while waiting for the arrival of the ambulance.
