What benefits are available through National Health Insurance?

Last updated: August 30, 2013

Benefits received under the National Health Insurance are for illness, injury, childbirth, and death, which are insured events, and the main benefits are as follows. All applications will be screened and only those approved will be covered by the insurance.
(1) Medical services such as medical examinations, medications, and hospital admissions at medical institutions due to illness or injury are medical care benefits, and payment will be part of the burden.
(2) Meals during hospitalization will also be covered by National Health Insurance, and the insured person will be responsible for part of the payment.
(3) If medical expenses for a month become high, the amount exceeding the household limit will be reimbursed as high-cost medical expenses. (You will receive an application form from the city hall about three months after the treatment.)
(4) In the following cases, once you have paid the full amount, the amount minus the self-pay amount will be refunded at a later date.

(5) When you give birth, you will receive a lump-sum childbirth allowance. If the pregnancy is 12 weeks (85 days) or later, it is also paid for stillbirths and miscarriages. (As a general rule, the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant is paid directly from the National Health Insurance to medical institutions, etc., which reduces the burden at the counter.)
(6) Funeral expenses will be paid to the person who held the funeral when the person died.
(7) In the case of using a home-visit nursing station, etc. deemed necessary by a doctor, the National Health Insurance will pay the home-visit nursing care expenses, so payment will be part of the burden.
(8) When a seriously ill person is urgently hospitalized or transferred to other hospitals due to unavoidable medical expenses, transportation expenses will be paid only when it is deemed necessary after application.
